U.S. Open Tennis Championships 2011 Betting Preview: Djokovic favourite to win third slam at Flushing Meadows

FLUSHING MEADOWS, NY - New world number one and Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is the favourite to win the U.S. Open at Flushing Meadows which starts in just under two months on the 29th of August.

Djokovic was imperious in London at the lawn tennis championships and he is priced at best odds of 2/1 (bet £10 to make £20 profit) with Skybet to follow up that success with a win at the U.S. Open. Djokovic has only lost one game all season so far and has reached the final of the U.S. Open twice.

The latest of which was at last year's tournament, where he lost to Rafael Nadal. Nadal is priced at 5/2 with bet365 to defend his title but the Spaniard will surely be worried about how far Djokovic has come since the final last September.

Nadal will surely have to find some significant improvement if he is to finally beat Djokovic this year, especially back on the Serb's favourite surface. This is by no means a two horse race though and Federer and Murray clearly both hold chances as part of the big four at the top of men's tennis at the moment.

Federer won the U.S. open for five years running between 2004 and 2008 (inclusive) and will be keen to add his name to the trophy for a sixth time having reached the final in 2009 and semi-final last year. Federer is best priced at 9/2 with Paddy Power to win the U.S. Open.

British number one Andy Murray should also be right up there back on hard court surface and he showed how dangerous he can be at the Australian Open when at the top of his game. He tto though will be wondering what it will take to beat Djokovic, Murray is priced at 13/2 with Paddy Power to win the tournament and may well be worth an each way chance.

Juan Martin Del-Potro showed at Wimbledon he is well and truly back after missing much of 2010 and he is priced at 13/2 with bet365 to win the U.S. Open.

Wimbledon "over-performer" Jo-Wilfried Tsonga may also be worth a chance given his great performances on the grass of Queens then Wimbledon. Tsonga is priced at 25/1 with Skybet to win the final grand slam of the year and in the same market world number five is priced at 33/1 with Paddy Power.
