US Open tennis men’s semi final – Nadal vs Del Potro

Posted: 2009-09-13 by David White

Rafael Nadal is the narrow favorite to beat Juan Martin del Potro in today’s delayed men’s US Open semi final.

Nadal is the 3/4 (bet $40 to make $30 profit) favorite while del Potro is on offer at 5/4. Nadal is 4/1 to win in straight sets, 10/3 to win 3-1 and 6/1 to win 3-2. Del Potro is 13/2 to win in straight sets, 5/1 to win 3-1 and 6/1 to win in five sets.

Del Potro has had plenty of time to rest since his quarter final victory overMarin Cilin; he beat the no 16 seed 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-1. Del Potro is seeded no 6 for the US Open.

No 3 seed Rafael Nadal rushed through to the semi-finals when his quarter final against Fernando Gonzales finally resumed after a long rain delay; Nadal won 7-6, 7-6, 6-0, finishing the match off in just over 30 minutes. Gonzalez played poorly and seemed to have accepted that it would be Nadal meeting the Argentian in the semi final.

Nadal is rated a 9/2 chance to win the US Open while Del Potro is 13/2 to record his first Grand Slam victory.
