ATP Swiss Indoors Championship – Federer warms up for London

Posted: 2009-11-02 by David White

The Swiss Indoors Championship has started and Roger Federer has returned from a self-imposed rest period just in time to play in his hometown event in Basel. Federer missed touring East Asia due to fatigue but will play this week and again in the Paris Masters as he warms up for the World Tour Finals where he will hope to regain the crown he lost last year.

Federer is bidding for a fourth successive victory in Basel and looks in good stead to do this as a clear favourite. Federer is priced at 4/6 (bet $60 to make $40 profit) to win the tournament, with Novak Djokovic next at 11/4. Fernando Gonzalez is a long way off at 14/1 with Marin Cilic priced at 16/1.

Federer’s countryman Stanislas Wawrinka is priced at 25/1 for the tournament, ahead of German Phillipp Kohlschreiber at 33/1.

The world no. 1 plays his first match at 5:30 tonight against Olivier Rochus. Federer has a 6-0 head to head record against the Belgian and bookies are confident that he will deliver, pricing him at 1/33. The Swiss is 2/11 to win the match 2-0 and 5/1 to win 2-1, whilst Rochus is 22/1 to win 2-1 and 40/1 to win in straight sets.
