ATP Valencia Open – Murray hopes to come back with a bang
The ATP Valencia Open is under way, with Andy Murray playing his first tournament since the US Open in September. Murray did not play in Shanghai or Japan, and will be using this tournament to get back in his groove for the World Tour finals at the end of the month.
Murray is favourite for the tournament at 13/8 (bet $80 to make $130 profit), followed by Nikolay Davydenko at 10/3. Davydenko has been in fine form recently, beating Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal on his way to the Shanghai Masters title, and also winning the Malaysian Open.
Fernando Verdasco is next at 10/1, and a good result here should cement his place in the World Tour Finals, whilst Joe Wilfried Tsonga is also in the running at 11/1, and will need results both here and in the Paris Masters to ensure a place in the final event of the year.
Frenchmen Gilles Simon and Gael Monfils are next in the betting at 16/1 and 18/1 respectively, with Tomas Berdych close behind at 20/1. Spanish duo David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez come next at 25/1 and 33/1.
This event faces competition from the Swiss Indoors Championship which has draw Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to its ranks, but both events have equal footing in terms of the ATP race. Murray plays his first match tomorrow and he is 1/14 to beat Daniel Gimeno Traver.
