It has almost become an accepted part of the sport, Andy Murray, was quoted in 2008 saying that "Everyone knows that match fixing takes place". It usually appears in first round ties where prize money is low, Gilles Elseneer in 2007 made claims that he had been offered, and turned down, £70,000 to lose against Potito Starace in the first round of Wimbledon in 2005. Gilles would have won just £10,000 had he beaten Starace and therefore corrupt gamblers could offer him seven times his potential prize money, an offer which some players find too good to refuse. Unfortunately, not all players have Elseneer's integrity, and a recent dossier identified over 140 games since 2002 that have potentially been pre determined.
