WTA Australian Open: Kvitova v Errani Odds and Betting Preview
Story by Jack Howard on 2012-01-24 14:00:02
MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA – World Number 2 Petra Kvitova faces Sara Errani in the quarterfinals of the WTA Australian Open early on Wednesday morning. Kvitova starts the match as strong favourite to win with all bookmakers, and can currently be backed to do so at a market best of 1/10 (bet £10 to make £1 profit) with Coral. For those punters who are anticipating a tournament upset, however, Sara Errani is on offer to progress to the semi finals at considerably longer odds of 7/1 with Stan James.
Czech star Petra Kvitova propelled her way to fame in 2011 when she defeated Maria Sharapova 6-3, 6-4 to win the Wimbledon title. In doing so the 21 year old became the first left-handed player to do so since Martina Navratilova in 1990. Kvitova made her way to the quarterfinals of this year’s Australian Open with a straight sets victory over Anna Ivanovic of Serbia, securing the first set 6-2 before winning the second on a tie break. She reached the quarterfinals of the competition last year, only to be defeated by Vera Zvonareva
Italian opponent Sara Errani, who is currently ranked 47th in the world, has never reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament before. She made her way through the fourth round with a comfortable 6-2, 6-1 win over Zheng Jie, but will certainly face a far tougher test against Kvitova in her upcoming game.
Kvitova is quoted at best odds of 1/3 with Blue Square to win the match in straight sets, whilst a 2-1 victory for the World Number 2 is available at a longer 4/1 with William Hill. For those punters expecting Errani to surprise the tennis world with a straight sets victory over Kvitova, however, a 2-0 win for the Italian can be backed at odds as long as 16/1 with Ladbrokes. A 2-1 win for Errani is on offer at 14/1 with bet365.
The first set will doubtless be vital in determining who has the momentum in this match, and Kvitova is currently strong favourite to take the set at odds of 1/6 with Skybet. Errani, on the other hand, can be backed to win the first set at 9/2 with bet365.
In the overall tournament betting Kvitova is favourite to lift the Australian Open trophy at the end of the week, and can currently be backed to do so at 7/4 with Blue Square, Betinternet and Skybet. Victoria Azarenka of Belarus is second favourite at 11/4 with Ladbrokes, whilst Maria Sharapova is available at 5/1 with Stan James. Sara Errani is currently on offer to win the title at odds as long as 100/1 with bet365.
