Australian Open – Nadal vs Murray betting
MELBOURNE – Andy Murray faces Rafael Nadal tonight in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open. The Scot is the fifth seed for the tournament but comes up against the world’s number two in the last eight and will be looking to reach the semi-finals for the first time in his career.
Nadal is the defending Champion but has had a frustrating year due to injury and it does not look like he is back to his best quite yet. The Spaniard struggled against both Karlovic in the last round and Kohlschreiber before him. Murray has been unstoppable and is yet to drop a set in this year’s competition.
The two players are seen as being very evenly matched and the bookmakers have made Murray a very slight favourite for the match at 17/20 (bet $200 to win $170 profit), leaving Nadal as underdog at 11/10.
While Murray is the form player going into the match it is worth noting that he has lost seven of the last nine meetings between the two players, including the last two. However, both of Murray’s wins came on hard courts and the Scot can hope to take advantage of his strength on this surface.
A 3-1 win in sets for Murray has been made the favourite outcome in terms of set betting with the same result for Nadal available at 4/1 and a straight sets win 5/1 for either player. Murray is also 11/2 to win 3-2, slightly shorter than Nadal at 6/1 for the same score.
Both players are given a good chance of winning the Australian Open this year with Murray second favourite at 4/1 and Nadal third favourite at 5/1. Roger Federer is favourite to win it this year, however, a long way in front at 21/20.
